I walked up Denny Way to Cal Anderson Park, hoping as usual to be fashionably late; but lots more people arrived over the next hour.
I found some space under a tree while speeches were made. Others had brought signs (“No Kings — More Queens” was repeated) but my favorite was a bust of Lady Liberty with the caption “Girl . . . hold my earrings.”
Here are marchers approaching Bell Street, nearing my home (I let them find their way to Seattle Center without me). I like the sign with the many small fishes forming the single big fish.
Police reported the size of the crowd to be about 70,000 eventually. By the way, I didn’t see any officers either at the park or on the march down to the Center — they must not have anticipated misbehavior. They did, however, block traffic far enough away that we seldom witnessed any backup.
